This disease is characterised by fever, headache, lethargy, or neurological deficits. Transmission is by inhalation of fungal spores. Confirmation is by identification of Cryptococcus neoformans or Cryptococcus gattii in a blood, sputum, or cerebrospinal fluid sample.
