Clinical characteristics include typical patterns of peripheral arthritis (i.e., predominantly of the lower limb and asymmetric), absence of rheumatoid factor, absence of subcutaneous nodules and other extra-articular features of rheumatoid arthritis, overlapping extra-articular features of the group (e.g., anterior uveitis), and significant familial aggregation and association with HLA-B27.
